Humanscale World One LM Chair
The Humanscale World One LM in black mesh is the accessible entry into the Humanscale range, and the interesting thing about it is what it does not give up. Designed by Niels Diffrient, it uses the sitter's own body weight to provide smooth, balanced recline. There are no recline levers and no tension dials: the chair calibrates itself to the person sitting in it.
The tri-panel Form Sensing Mesh backrest takes on the shape of the back and provides self-adjusting lumbar support without a separate lumbar pad. With the all-mesh seat it is the coolest chair in the range over a long day, and at 12.2 kg with arms it is the lightest to move.
Configuration

The 181 kg capacity. A $660 task chair certified to 400 lb is unusual, and it is the fact about this chair most under-sold in the Australian market. It carries the same certification as the Liberty at $1,114 — stepping down in price within the Humanscale range does not cost you load rating. Note that a weight rating certifies the chair rather than promising fit for a particular body, and Humanscale does not publish a seat width for this chair. Our guide to office chair weight ratings in Australia explains what to look for.
A note on castors. This configuration ships with hard castors, which are the correct choice for carpet. If your floors are timber, tile, polished concrete or vinyl, call us on 02 9640 0642 before ordering and we will sort out soft castors for you.
Worth checking before you order. The seat height tops out at 52.7 cm. That suits most people, but check it against your own leg length rather than assuming — it is the most common reason this chair goes back. There is no headrest on the World One LM; if you want one, the chair to look at is the Humanscale Freedom Headrest, and we will talk you through it.
Warranty
Humanscale states a "12 year warranty for parts and components, and a five year warranty for arm pads". Note that this is 12 years rather than the 15 years that applies across most of the Humanscale range — it is listed separately in Humanscale's terms, and a replacement schedule built on 15 years would be three years optimistic. Arm pads, castors, cushions and textiles sit on the five-year term. Full terms are on our warranty page. This warranty is in addition to your rights under the Australian Consumer Law, which are not limited by it.
Prefer a padded seat? The World One LM with an upholstered seat is the same chair with a sculpted foam seat in Corde 4 textile. Call us on 02 9640 0642 and we'll talk you through the difference, or try both in the Pyrmont showroom.
