HÅG Capisco Saddle Chair 8106

The HÅG Capisco 8106 is a saddle-shaped ergonomic chair designed by Peter Opsvik for active sitting. Its open back and balanced tilt let you sit forwards, backwards, sideways or perch at standing-desk height — the chair is built around the assumption that you will move, not that you will hold one correct posture.

Which gas lift do you need?

This is the decision people get wrong, and it matters more on a Capisco than on a conventional chair, because the perching range is the whole point of the design. The gas lift is the height-adjustment cylinder, and it comes in three lengths:

• 150 mm — seat height 400 to 540 mm. For people under about 160 cm at a fixed-height desk.
• 200 mm — seat height 460 to 640 mm. The standard option, and the right one for most people at a conventional desk.
• 265 mm — seat height 550 to 810 mm. For sit-stand desks, taller users, or anyone who wants to perch at standing height.

The taller cylinders do not go as low as the shorter ones, so a 265 mm lift is the wrong choice if you also want to sit conventionally at a fixed desk. The 110 kg figure you may have seen quoted is a condition of the guarantee, not a load rating: the ten-year guarantee covers normal use of up to 9 hours per day for users up to 110 kg, and beyond 9 hours a day the term is five years. Warranty

Flokk provides a 10-year warranty against production defects on HÅG chairs in normal use for up to 9 hours per day, for users up to 110 kg. Chairs used for more than 9 hours per day carry a 5-year warranty. Fabrics and leather are covered for 5 years. Normal wear and tear is excluded. Flokk separately guarantees the delivery of spare parts for a minimum of ten years after the chair's production date.

This warranty is in addition to your rights under the Australian Consumer Law. Our goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. You are entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure and compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage. You are also entitled to have the goods repaired or replaced if the goods fail to be of acceptable quality and the failure does not amount to a major failure. Common questions

How long does it take to get used to a saddle seat?
Most people need a week or two. The saddle shape opens your hip angle and asks more of your core than a conventional seat does, so it can feel like work at first. If you are coming from a deeply padded chair, expect an adjustment period rather than instant comfort.

What is the difference between the 8106 and the Capisco Puls?
The 8106 is the original: upholstered seat and back, a 500 mm wide seat and an adjustable 440–500 mm backrest. The Puls 8010 and Puls 8020 have a moulded shell, a 460 mm seat and a fixed 400 mm back, and they wipe down in seconds — which is why they are the models specified for clinics and laboratories. Can I use it at a standing desk?
Yes, with the 265 mm gas lift. That is the configuration the Capisco is best known for — perching at standing-desk height rather than standing continuously. Add a FootRing, which fits the 200 mm and 265 mm lifts.

How does it compare to a Herman Miller Aeron?

Flokk does not publish a maximum user weight for the Capisco, so there is no rating you would be sitting outside of. What the 110 kg figure actually is, is a condition of the ten-year guarantee: it covers normal use of up to 9 hours per day for users up to 110 kg, and beyond 9 hours a day the term is five years.
